PAST SIMPLE


WHEN DO WE USE THE PAST SIMPLE?

We use the simple past to refer to an action in the past that is finished.
EX: I lived in Paris for 1 year.
-----1 year in Paris----------- Now I live in London


How to make an affirmative sentence in the simple past:

Subject + Verb (past form) +
Adverbial

EX: I went to the beach yesterday.


How to make a negative sentence in the simple past:


Subject + Auxiliary + Verb (infinitive) + Adverbial

EX: They did not (didn't) go to the beach yesterday.

How to make a question in the simple past:

Question Word + Auxiliary + Subject + Verb (infinitive) + Adverbial

Why did you go to the beach yesterday?


Examples from the past simple:

I saw a movie yesterday.
I didn't see a play yesterday.
Last year, I traveled to Japan.
Last year, I didn't travel to Korea.
Did you have dinner last night?
She washed her car.
He didn't wash his car.
